Let Us Ponder
These songs are a mixture of poetry, of realizations, of messages, of all the things I randomly think about during my existence. This album is a work in progress. So far I only have five tracks.
My Home, My Place ©Kelli CatesWrote this for my husband. The first verse actually details the night he proposed. I also love that the chorus doesn't rhyme perfectly...busted out of my comfort zone a little. The key change near the end is my absolute favorite key change of any of my songs. It was well-executed. :)

Stand and Fight (Hunger Games) ©Kelli CatesBefore you get excited, the Hunger Games song is just a remake of my original "Stand and Fight" but with lyrics that suit my favorite set of books better. Notice how I talk about the spark igniting the fire (ahem, Katniss Everdeen, anyone?)

Escape ©Kelli CatesLove love love love loved writing this poem. It's like my internal painter met my internal poet and they made a baby and it was this poem.
My internal musician jumped on the bandwagon years after this poem was written, actually. |
Withered and Cold ©Kelli CatesI actually write this after seeing some very self-centered tweets and statuses (gotta love social networking). In truth, this song says it all. If you only serve yourself and your needs, you will shrivel up into a self-absorbed and unhappy mess. Live for others. Really. It works.

Anna-Marie ©Kelli CatesThere's so much to this lovely young woman that isn't even covered by the song. Anna-Marie is the daughter of my cousin, she is one of the kindest, sweetest and most motivating girls imaginable. Easily said, she's probably the most loyal of any fan I have, and is always there with kind words about my music...even if I think a song falls short. She is a blessing to all who know her, and one of the few people I feel deserve a song written about them. :)

Baby, Baby Mine ©Kelli CatesPenelope was the first puppy I ever adopted. I've had plenty of puppies in my lifetime, but she was the first I could truly call mine. She was definitely a momma's girl, she came to me for love, snuggles, kisses, etc. And she was going to live a long, happy, beautiful life had she not escaped and chased a car on Christmas Eve. My darling little girl now gets to run free in puppy heaven, and I know she's happy. That's all I ever wanted.
