A Cold, wounded Heart
Songs 2, and 3 were actually not even my own thoughts, these were written as a voice for a woman who is near and very dear to me. She had endured some of the worst pain that a heart can go through, rejection, betrayal, the works, and it inspired me to write for her, to bring the words she wanted to say to light. She will always be someone I admire. Songs 1, 3, and 5 are my own thoughts, taken from a moment when my heart was set in a bitter state. Song 4 was kinda inspired by events but loosely based on random people.
Tangled Web ©Kelli CatesTaken from the quote by Sir Walter Scott "Oh, what a tangled web we weave, when first we practise to deceive!" I've witnessed people play some pretty twisted games full of lies, and as the second verse admits, I've even done my own dark games before. This is one of my favorite creations, for all its simplicity and power.
Do You Not Remember? ©Kelli CatesThis is actually my husband's favorite song. Go figure. :) The concept was actually first thought of when I saw Adele's title "Don't You Remember" (I still actually haven't listened to that song, btw). I thought, "What a great concept for a breakup song...not just focusing on the current pain, but reminding of the previous happiness." A smart ploy, indeed.

She Will Break Your Heart ©Kelli CatesThe first of all of the heartbreak songs. This was written when the lady in question's significant other first struck up with an old acquaintance, falling in love. It's the ultimate betrayal to have someone who pledged their love to you forsake you like that, especially for someone who caused them pain in the past.
Home-Wrecking Girl ©Kelli CatesHeh. This was incredibly fun to write musically. Although I must say that by writing this, I made myself a bit of a hypocrite, because I've been the "other girl" (which I am NOT proud of). But I feel that I also have an advantage in writing this, because I know what's in that other perspective. She really just wants what she can't have.

Just Another Guilt Trip ©Kelli Cates
Tired of being blamed for things you did not cause? Then this song's for you. Tired of seeing people not own up to the mistakes that they've made? This song is the anthem of those of us who see someone's conceit and refusal to be humble.
